YOGA THERAPY

Providing private one-on-one and group yoga sessions; in Crouch End, Muswell Hill, Highgate and Hampstead area. Teaching according to traditional and authentic yoga techniques; combining a holistic yoga system of Asanas - positions and exercises,  Yoganidra - relaxation, Pranyama - breathing techniques and Dhyana - meditation.

 

The yoga sessions are customized according to student's requirements and needs. Beginners and advanced practitioners are welcome. 

 

A regular yoga practice is beneficial to overall wellness. It helps to release stress, increase vitality, gain a healthy body, and achieve a peaceful mind.

 

ASANAS

Positions and Exercises

In yoga, an asana is a posture in which a practitioner sits. In the Yoga Sutras, Patanjali defines "asana" as "to be seated in a position that is firm, but relaxed". Patanjali mentions the ability to sit for extended periods as one of the eight limbs of his system, known as ashtanga yoga.
Asanas are also performed as physical exercise where they are sometimes referred to as "yoga postures" or "yoga positions". Some asanas are performed just for health purposes. Asanas do promote good health, although in different ways compared to physical exercises, "placing the physical body in positions that cultivate also awareness, relaxation and concentration".

YOGANIDRA

Relaxation

Yoga nidra is a state of consciousness between waking and sleeping, like the "going-to-sleep" stage. It is a state in which the body is completely relaxed, and the practitioner becomes systematically and increasingly aware of the inner world by following a set of verbal instructions. 
Yoga nidra is among the deepest possible states of relaxation while still maintaining full consciousness. In lucid dreaming, one is only, or mainly, cognizant of the dream environment, and has little or no awareness of one's actual environment.
The practice of yoga relaxation has been found to reduce tension and anxiety. The autonomic symptoms of high anxiety such as headache, giddiness, chest pain, palpitations, sweating and abdominal pain respond well.

PRANAYAMA

Breathing exercise

Pranayama is a Sanskrit word alternatively translated as "extension of the prana (breath or life force)" or "breath control." The word is composed from two Sanskrit words: prana meaning life force (noted particularly as the breath), and either ayama (to restrain or control the prana, implying a set of breathing techniques where the breath is intentionally altered in order to produce specific results) or the negative form ayama, meaning to extend or draw out (as in extension of the life force).

DHYANA

Meditation

Dhyana means contemplation and meditation, though their technical context is different. Dhyana is taken up in Yoga exercises, and leads to samadhi and self-knowledge. 


The various concepts of dhyana and its practice originated in the Vedic era, developed further in the Buddhist, Hindu and Jain traditions, partly independently, partly influencing each other, and have been influential within the diverse traditions of Hinduism. It is, in Hinduism, a part of a self-directed awareness and unifying Yoga process by which the yogi realizes Self (Atman, soul), one's relationship with other living beings, and Ultimate Reality.
